“The Small Business Administration, for example, has rejected more than 70 percent of the loan applications from storm victims, many of whom are poor credit risks. Bush, however, said the agency has been overwhelmed by the flood of loan applications.

He said the agency has provided $2.6 billion in low-interest disaster loans to nearly 40,000 homeowners, renters and small businesses.

Bush, meanwhile, has spent relatively little time meeting with the victims of the flooding and touring the devastation in New Orleans. His visits there are often confined to meetings with political and business leaders.”

There are some very ignorant answers here. I live in NO and it is poor, but not a dump. It is a historically significant city, that is if you care about American history, un-like some of these so called patriots. There was too help for the storms in FL. My grandma lives there and she got gov't assistance. Bush didn't talk to anyone but white people who own beach front property. Don't you care about your fellow Americans people? Bush screwed up- the local gov't screwed up and the poor people of New Orleans are suffering. In my neighborhood there are many republicans who are angry. They have gotten little or no help. People's lives were ruined. The suicide rate has skyrocketed. Have a little compassion people!

I am not saying all these things are everyone else's fault- or even Bush's fault- but what happened to all the love people had for us after the storm? Like it or not- many people here do need help. Would you tolerate the same for the victims of 9/11? We also had a tragedy that was out of our control, and we need love and support from our big American family!

P.S Last time Bush was here he stayed at a hotel downtown and he had snipers on the roof. I don't know if he does that in every city- but maybe he knows how pissed off people down here are, and for good reason. He just comes for PR, he doesn't care about us.

I don't get it. The whole situation of rebuilding is a joke. Even if they get the loan, which should be a hand out when you consider all the damn money we're giving Iraq and North Korea for nothing, which is 4 times the amount in billions, the home owners can't afford the insurance if the can even get it. But when you consider the fact the insurance companies arn't going to pay anyways, what's the use in haveing it. The congress and the president did nothing more than throw a "promise" of 10billion dollars at the disaster, of which has been impossible to get because of the red tape involved.

Bush got smacked big-time for not mentioning Katrina in the state of the union speech. He's trying to patch that PR gaffe.

And patching PR gaffes is a lot easier than actually fixing things or appointing competent administrators for SBA, FEMA, the Army Corps of Engineers, etc. New Orleans was extremely lucky last hurricane season was light because essential work on the levees was NOT completed in time. We'll see what happens this year.

Meanwhile, the rape of the federal treasury and the American people continues.

Umm, should we just throw money at whoever files a claim?
Oh, and why would he meet with these people? They would probably try and harm him.
I went through hurricane andrew, which destroyed everything. It litterally looked like a nuclear bomb went off. FEMA did nothing, but we didnt blame the government, because everything we take from the government is taking from the rest of america.
We rebuilt ourselves, why cant New Orleans?

He can watch TV and know his hurricane machine work as planed! There is no need to keep revisiting the scene of the crime. Besides he is to busy with covering up the 9/11 boomings he and his team planed!

He went because the specter of Katrina reared its head again especially after the Walter Reed debacle So much for supporting our troops.
It reminded people about the lack of support for people at home. He did not even make it N.O. He went to Mississippi. Not a surprise, the governor there is Republican.
He would not spend that kind of time because he would have to answer questions he had no hope of answering. So they put him with favorable people who won't ask the tough questions

I don't know it's a waste of gas. N.O. was a dump before Katrina. Bush dosen't talk to the victims for three reasons, 1. he doesn't understand Ebonics. 2. he doesn't have any spare change when asked by the residents. 3. Doesn't like Gumbo.

To find out for himself just WHY Ray Nagin did not use the school buses, that wound up getting flooded, to evacuate the residents of New Orleans.

hes been there 14 times!! since the hurricane..and yet, "he doesnt care"..stupid statement.

have you been there,? do you know that 4-7 inches of the topsoil has to be removed from a large part of the area due to oil contamination?..you cannot do anything until that is cleared out.

it was a HUGE disaster, i mean wtf? get real..

America has lost its patience long ago, they expect instant results where it is impossible, as reflected in sentiments to the Iraq war, and the Katrina disaster, Iran, North Korea, etc..
