A parallelogram has sides 18.1 m and 4.1 m. The height corresponding to the 18.1-m base is 11.7m. Find the height, to the nearest tenth of a meter, corresponding to the 44.1-m base. The answer is 28.5 m but I don't know how to work out the problem. Can someone help?

A parallelogram has sides 18.1 m and 4.1 m. The height corresponding to the 18.1-m base is 11.7m. Find the height, to the nearest tenth of a meter, corresponding to the 44.1-m (??? 4.1 m???) base. The answer is 28.5 m but I don't know how to work out the problem. Can someone help?
Area of parallelogram = base1 x height1
= 18.1 x 11 .7
= 211.77 m²
Therefore Area = 211.77 m²
Area of parallelogram = base2 x height2
211.77 m² = 4.1 x height2
So height2 = 211.77 m² / 4.1
= 55.7m
OR
211.77 m² = 44.1 x height2
So height2 = 44.1
= 4.8m
OR to get a height2 of 28.5m
211.77 m² = base2 x 28.5m
So base2 = 211.77 m² / 28.5
= 7.4 m
There is clearly some sort of transcription error in your question but the procedure is the same no matter what the given values for the numbers

First write down the gives or "knowns" -A parrellogram has 4 sides a b c and d
**From the definition of a Paralellogram we know that the area= Base multiplied by Height
11.7 multiplied by 18.1 = the area= 211.77
-The height of one side = 11.7
-The base1 of that same side side = 18.1
-The height of base 2 = 44.1
Whatever the area is you use this to find out the 28.5cm you were talking about
is we take the given which was base2(44.1) and say to yourself what times 44.1 will give me the area of the missing base or base 2, and then round that up tothe nearest tenth.
ok i think its a simplpe ratio problem 11.7 is to 18.1 as x is to 44.1
11.7(18.1)=x(44.1)
211.7=x(44.1) here, the next step isto divide 211.7 by x to solve the equation
x=4.80 I dont kow why I keep getting this answer oh now i know why
UA ratio equation or simple algebra ie think of the problem like this if for every 1 hour i make 10 dollars how many dollars do i make in 2 hours. Apply that logic to this problem along with the equation for the area of a parallelogram and you should be all set on proving this with your texts equations.

Your numbers are confusing, do you really mean 4.1 m or 44.1 m? The area of a parallelogram is the length of one side times the height relative to that base. The area doesn't depend on whether the parallelogram is sitting on its long base or its short base.
Assuming you mean 4.1 m for the short side. The height corresponding to the 18.1 m base is 11.7 m so the area is 18.1 times 11.7 = 211.77 sq metres. The area can also be written as the other side (4.1 m) times the height relative to that side, so 4.1 times height = 211.77 sq metres or height = 211.77m divided by 4.1 = 51.65 metres, which is 51.7 to the nearest 1/10 the metre.
That isn't the answer you gave, I assume you typed some numbers incorrectly.

The area will be equal either way, so:
(18.1)(11.7) = (44.1)x
211.77 = (44.1)x
4.8 = x
I don't get 28.5 m. Did you type something wrong in the question?
--------------------
Either the answer of 28.5 is wrong, or the question is worded incorrectly above. The above answer (4.8) is correct as the question is written.
However, if you instead do:
(11.7)(44.1) = (18.1)x
THEN you get x = 28.5
But that would mean the height of 11.7 corresponds to the 44.1 base, not the 18.1 base.

Surface = base*height and is the same ANY BASE AND CORRESPONDING HEIGHT YOU CHOOSE.So
18.1*11.7 =44.1*x So calculate.x You,ve got a mixed number salad .
None of your numbers corresponds to your answer.But you have the method to solve it

When the base is 18.1 m ,the height is 11.7 m.
Area=18.1*11.7
=211.77 m^2
The height when the base is 4.1 m
=211.77/4.1
=51.7 m
Please note that this answer is correct,and the answer given by you is wrong if the new base is 4.1 m
