You mean from enviromental analysis ?
the water is probably polluted by some microorganism, or that a fertilizer was thrown into the water.

In that nitrogen (gas) is fixed by plants and converted into a solid that is used by the plants, but can also be then converted into a fertilizer, I would look for a point, or non-point source of run off.
