People read books since these great printed pages in various sizes and types of binding/format are definitely for those readers in thirst of knowledge, information, enjoyment, references, etc. for centuries among lay people, students, teachers, scholars, that is, reading the books according to their own taste or profession is a civilized pursuit of humankind to achieve better and fluent literacy for the sake of well-read readership. Moreover, I think, some people may think and treat reading differrently. For instance, some say they read books to console their suffering via the process of enjoyable reading they can find solace and happiness without any heated argument with anyone in the world.

Because that is the simple way to pass time interestingly, gather knowledge at your own pace, to know variety of fellow human (the author of books) and their mind, thoughts ... a book brings you in close touch with human mind without going near actual person. A book is an exhibition of an interesting side of the author. Books do the job of parents, teachers, friend, philosopher, guide ... all without having to deal with the actual person. This avoids all the complexities of these relationships that one may have to face otherwise.

To transport ourselves to another world, to experience things we never would (or that we have, can relate to)... The list goes on forever. Everyone has a different reason for reading, and even within one person there can be a million reasons.

some wonder why people read books, I wonder why people don't read any more. If some people read, they hope to get some answers, but those who don't read are not skeptical about finding solutions, but they rather don't have questions.
