I like to help people with random acts of kindness. In this world of selfishness, hatred, revenge being kind is so rewarding.

I am not 100% loving and outgoing for all people at all times. Some of the time I am even selfish. But when I help people something changes in me.
When I am down, even depressed, I visit a nursing home, write a letter to a distant friend and remind them of how special they once were in my time of need.

My best story was the occasion I visited an elderly lady in the nursing home who outlived every one of her children and relatives. She had no one to visit her except the nurses. She was depressed to the point of never leaving her room, though at 89 in better health than I was, at that time, 44.
The nurse I randomly came to visit anyone and asked me to vist her. I did and she told me her story. It was not of abuse or other tragic events except for loosing loved ones. The worst that happend in these losses was the company they provided.
Her room was appointed like fresh from the 1920s and beautiful beyond anything I have ever seen. She lived in a "time bubble" as it were, staying in the past.
I noticed the the newspaper on her table and asked if she ever thought of "praying" the paper. She thought I might be crazy. I explained, "Do you ever see a story that touches your heart? The wars, the killings, the unfortunate loss of children?" She said yes but said she could do nothing about it. I suggested praying for every story she is ever touched by.
She promised she would.
A month later I stopped by and the nurse that asked me to visit her stopped me. "What did you ever do to that woman?" I inquired as to what she meant. She went on to say that within three days of my visit she came out of her room and started visiting others and coming to community activities.
I went to see her and she was beaming with joy. I asked what happened. She told me that she took my words seriously and is now even praying the "personal ads" when she sees an apology or a person asking to come back home.
Wow...did she ever make my day...week... month...and all the years since then. I now give that suggestion to any homebound or nursing home person. I receive more, just seeing them have a purpose in their reclining years than they receive in having something to live for.

I could go on and on but I think you got my point.

Stick around through everything, and wait for the person to be ready for the lesson. That's you're first task. If you dont understand that no one will be helped until they want to be, then you're in for a long, frustrating time!
