I mean, if a person wants to be a singer, does he/she have to have the ability to compose, or just sing a random song by some random composers?

I know that Kelly Clarkson (my celebrity) composed "Because of You" and sang it herself. Im just wondering if singers HAVE to compose songs for themselves....!?!?

If you're good enough and pretty enough, they'll give you generic pop crap written by songwriters that can't sing.

Of course not. There have been tons of entertainers over the years who weren't composers. If you want to restrict things to singers, just look at Britney Spears, Meat Loaf, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, or practically every opera singer that ever existed. Some of the most famous singers were never composers. This works out great for people who can write great songs but aren't too great at being performers.

ive observed that maximum no longer all bands compose their very own track/lyrics and a great sort of solo pop singers get it from different people who compose it. thats to no longer say ALL because of the fact there are lots of people who make their very own and a great sort of who dont in distinctive genres

No, singers do not have to write their own lyrics or music. Some singers don't even play a musical instrument. They just sing.

But it seems to me that the most successful singers write or cowrite their lyrics and/or music.

not at all. i know of bands where the drummer writes all of the matrerial. then there are professional song writers who write songs for others to sing. 'beautiful' by christina aguilera was completely written by a woman named linda perry.

Celion Deon (Spelling intentional) hasn't written a single song. This is why she is a hack.
