They must be at least 10-15 years old, as my brother used to have a boat about that time and it's still outside my Mothers house on google earth picture.

I know that the ages of the pictures vary by region... at least for the high-resolution phots where you can make out details.
For instance, a building at Harwell that was finished over 5 years ago is still a picture of a field and in Didcot (less than 10 miles away) there is a shopping centre that is pictured as a building site (as it was about 3 years ago). Some of the stuff in London is less than a year out of date.
Microsoft's photographs seem to be generally older than Google's - or at least they do in the UK.

Some are more than 7 years old and much of the United States is still being mapped. We use to have a tree in our yard about 8 years ago and it is still in the image on Google.

They must vary a great deal because it would be impossible to map the whole world at one go. For instance where I live I can see my old caravan on the drive which was sent to the caravan park in the sky at least 5 years ago. Google Earth is great though isn't it?

The picture of my house was at least 3 years old up to about a month ago when they changed it...now there are all the new houses which were built just recently......I think they will be changing them all gradually. ( I live in London UK, Greenwich area...)
PS: I did like the old picture better, unfortunately the new one was photographed on a very sunny day and almost all my house with the garden is in the shade so it's very dark.......it was better visible on the old pic.....lucky I have saved it in my computer. ;-D

The picture of my area is about 13 years old as my house still has the old driveway which was repositioned about 12-13 years ago, just after i moved in.

Go to Microsoft TerraServer and look up the location your interested in. When the results are returned they list them by the date the immages were made. Many are around 10 years old.

The new updated one must be about 2 years old, I can calculate this because we ere having major work done to our house and you can see the scaffold around it. It may also depend on the area.
