im sorry if my answer offends any men, and whilst i dont mean to tar you all with the same brush, the majority of men do not actually want custody of their children after divorce, and in most marriages the majority of childcare issues and burdens fall on the mother, i accept that some mothers are not good mums and some fathers are much more devoted than others, but for the majority of children the mother is often more suited to the task of rearing children especially single handedly. I think statistics will prove that their are more men who cant be bothered staying in touch with or providing financially for their children than there are fathers who would like custody and are suitable candidates for full residence of their kids. once again i fully accept that their are exceptions to the rule.

The law has changed in favour of the parent that the child likes most. That's in England anyway. Before that the wife was favoured by the law for a long time, not a resent thing. The reason being that on the whole the woman that gave birth to the child would be the person who had that child's best interests at heart.

I dont know probably some years ago, maybe 30 or more. If you have never listened to feminists before then do so now as this is proof of what we are talking about. We dont want advantages, we want equality, but things like this muddy the water.
If sexism didnt exist in our society to tie us to our biology, then why do these laws exist?
One of the main arguments against feminism is it being unnatural and unrealistic. One of the advantages of being human is we theoretically have free will and can choose to obey biological urges or not, so it makes no sense to say biology must be obeyed. Conservatives against feminism must be advocating revenge and murder as these are also two very human and natural instincts. Love it when people pick and choose their perspectives like sweets, and make no sense!
Sorry if this is irrelevant and probably is but I am feeling militant today! hehe!

I suspect that in the past it was de rigeur for the mother to get custody, unless there were very extenuating circumstances, or the father had enough money to bribe the judge, it is only recently that courts have started awarding custody to the father.

A long time ago, you have no rights in any divorce being a man. You are automatically cast as the devil and wrongdoer in any English divorce court, the only way out is for her to have been some kind of demon from hell, then you might just have a chance.
