FFS-first I've heard the Irish Free State Government were responsible for the Provos bombing the mainland(England-actually!!)
Potato famine-don't make me laugh-it was a potato blight only and the crop was more than enough to feed the indigineous population.Funny how they seemed to have enough to feed the empire building Brits all over the world at that dreadful time for the Celtic people.Stop rewriting history according to the bastard butcher Cromwell.

Of course they won't. When it comes to the subject of Ireland, Brittania waives the rules.

To the gentleman who claimed the IRA were trying to kill all the Brits: nothing could be further from the truth. The Provos have no problem with Brits...as long as they remain in Britain. All they wanted was a united 32-county Ireland.

I would prefer if you were talking about the Irish government, you would refer to it as the government of the Republic of Ireland. The Free State has existed for quiet some time.

As for an apology hardly likely, at least the Irish take the high road, when the English played at the scenes of one of the worst atrocities of the war of independence, the British national anthem was played with silence from the Irish crowd, the same is never the case in Twickenham with the Irish anthems.

You are correct the Irish government never sanctioned the bombings of mainland Britain, there were some government employees complicit, but they were frowned upon and nowadays the PIRA are hated in the republic for what they did. The original IRA target solely military and occupational agents, never civilians.

The potato famine, Ireland had a population of over 8 million, 1 million died, and more than two million immigrated during that time. Sounds a bit like genocide to me, and look up the definition of genocide:

"any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial or religious group, as such: killing members of the group; causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life, calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; and forcibly transferring children of the group to another group."

Look at the horrors of the Potato 'Famine' - but like at the horrors of the British' own Crimean War. Was it on purpose ?? But -what about the Irish Penal Laws- now those were BAD.

"Genocide" (with the possible exception of reaction to the Potato famine) is far too strong a word to describe British policy in Ireland. "Occupation" might be more accurate.

Genocide? Oh please, if they were trying that.....there would be no Irish.....300 years, would have eliminated the Irish, the Scots, the French, and the Russians, if they were trying to do that.....give it a break. The IRA was trying to eliminate the English though.....maybe they should apologize to the Brits.
