Everytime I think about the slavery days, all I really think about is how the white man was despicable enough to own black slaves. Everytime I look at black history taypes, I really only see white people being so cruel and despicable to black where they're hosing them down, setting dogs to them, making them sit at the back of bus, I could go on for days. However, I don't really see any Chinese people or hispanic people doing the same. Where were they all during this terrible time? Just at home watching the white people disrespect the black people and kind of staying out if it because they knew if they showed that they weren't white, Caucasians might do the same. Iol! I really don't know the story with the other races. Basically, I never see them around when we discuss how blacks were slaves. I only see white people because they're the main ones responsible for what went on. Did chinese and hispanics own black slaves or were only them white folks allowed to own slaves?

Tone you have a good point.
Other races did participate in the enslavement of Africans. Arabs were huge African slave traders and put over 1 million Blacks into the slave market. Certain Native American tribes also owned slaves and helped return runaway slaves often but there weren't many Native American Slave owners or traders. Since they were being oppressed as well, there were also tribes that help blacks. So-called "Hispanics" were in the Americas before Europeans from Spain came and taught them Spanish and Portuguese and those Europeans traded slaves but the Latinos themselves didn't own slaves and were also victims of various forms of white supremacy. There were also African slaves in Asia brought in mostly by Arabs at first and then later by the British. Oriental type Asians like Japan, China, Korea etc. for the most part did not participate in the African American slave trade. Indians in Asia where going through their own version of white supremacy called the Caste system.

Well first off, I'm a huge Jim Crow/slavery buff.
As for the Hispanics, Chinese, and other races they were also being treated badly during the huge civil rights movements.
They didn't get involved because they probably didn't want to be treated so badly like the blacks.
As for other races having black slaves... I do know that Spaniards and french also had black slaves.
They also used native Americans and even whites were sold as slaves.
If someone had a grudge against someone back then, all they would have to do is tell the authorities that this person was a quarter black, or even less and they would immediately be sold into slavery, in fact there were a lot of white slaves too.
That's how rampant slavery was.

All the major races were in service to whites at some point; the blacks as slaves and the chinese and indians as indentured servants...it is an unfair statement to compare slavery in other parts of the world and ancient history to the slavery involved with the sugar plantations of the western world...slavery of the Africans/blacks lasted for over 400 finally ending less than 200 yrs ago, it was the most brutal type of slavery known to human kind there is no comparison to be made, this was the only recent day slavery where children were born into slavery...and although whites as well as other races like to say we as blacks should just get over it is impossible as it affects us in our every day life.

The Chinese and Hispanic folks in the U.S. around that time got a raw deal too for the most part.

Let's not forget though, that the slavery issue is not so "black and white." Blacks in Africa owned entire races of other blacks, in fact that's where a lot of the imported slaves came from--blacks abroad selling and trading fellow blacks to greedy white opportunists.

The answer to your question is yes races other than whites owned slaves in the US.

In 1619, 20 Africans were dropped off by a Dutch trader at Jamestown, Virginia. Slavery did not legally exist in the colony at the time, and the Africans were treated as indentured servants, gaining their freedom after a fixed period of time. In 1654, John Casor, a black man, become the first legally-recognized slave in the area to become the United States. Casor was owned by one of the original indentured servants, a black colonist named Anthony Johnson. Slavery became formally codified in the English colonies in the second half of the 17th century.

further information:
Carter G. Woodson, whose grandparents and father had been slaves, was one of the first to write about the Black slave owners. In Free ***** Owners of Slaves in the United States in 1830 (published in 1924) Woodson gives the names and number of slaves owned by free blacks counted in the U. S. Census of 1830, listing them by name and the number of slaves owned

the chinese and hispanics probably didn't have slaves in the 1700s-1900s like America did. England abolished slavery in 1830-ish.

saudi arabia abolished slavery in 1962 (yes, i checked)
its just that the PC aura that has covered anything bad anyone without white skin or christain background has done, so as a result, we only learn of "atrocities carried out by whites"

Blacks in Africa owned black slaves, they sold them to American slave traders. The Egyptians emslaved the Jews. The Spanish enslaved the Native Americans, creating Hispanics. Every person on this Earth has very likely had a slave ancestor. Ancient cultures had slaves abound.

It is difficult to determine when slave trading began in the archaic period. In Works and Days (8th century BC), Hesiod owns numerous dmōes although their status is unclear. The presence of douloi is confirmed by lyric poets such as Archilochus or Theognis of Megara. According to epigraphic evidence, the homicide law of Draco (c. 620 BC) mentioned slaves. According to Plutarch, Solon (c. 594-593) forbade slaves from practising gymnastics and pederasty. By the end of the period, references become more common. Slavery becomes prevalent at the very moment when Solon establishes the basis for Athenian democracy. Classical scholar Moses Finley likewise remarks that Chios, which, according to Theopompus was the first city to organize a slave trade, also enjoyed an early democratic process (in the 6th century BC). He concludes that "one aspect of Greek history, in short, is the advance hand in hand, of freedom and slavery."[37]

Dude, blacks sold and still sell their own into slavery. Not only to whites but also to BLACKS and anyone else who would buy.
Slavery comes disguised in many forms and we can all be slaves in one way or another.
What happened to the blacks in this country is horrible, yet nowhere near as bad as the Indian. I say get over it!!!

The black slaves were first kept by Arabs who captured blacks in the east coast of Africa ,early in the 12th century. The reason why there are no offsprings of the blacks in the arab world like in the white world is that the slaves in the arab world were castrated and their women married off to arab families.
