At some level, yes. The chose not to put in the effort to be an MD, or a lawyer or an accountant. The better jobs weren't worth the effort...they are satisfied with the rewards and sacrifices of a blue collar job.
And there is nothing at all wrong with that...most blue collar guys I know are happy. Many MDs, lawyer and CEOs I know are not happy...we each define what's important and prioritize our goals accordingly.

Any job that is honest work is worth doing? Not everyone is born with a silver spoon in their mouth. Some people work "not so great jobs" because they have to.Sometimes its a matter of putting food on the table , or clothes on your kids backs. My mother worked very hard , she was a waitress for many years, to feed me and my brother and 4 sisters. And yes, some people do aspire to be janitors and garbage men and construction workers , Maybe even burger flippers. I remember a childhood friend who always told me that he was going to be a garbage man and he happens to be quite well off now, still collecting garbage and still collecting a large paycheck! If you are happy in your chosen line of work, then its not what you do, but how well you do it. I don't care if you are building A 40 million dollar jet fighter, or a 10 dollar model airplane . As long as you are doing your best.and last but not least remember........Pride goeth before destruction.

Its not a choice, but when you have no degrees etc, and what you want is not in reach currently, you have to take anything going. I know this, I am currently unempployed as i moved country. Due to the socialism in this country, they prefer to hire natives, over me, and as i dont have a degree and have 10 years experience, they would rather i flipped bugers etc. But i cant even get one of these jobs! Having beeing an associate, a PA, a manager, I am willing to take any job out there, as basically you need to live! and so you take anything so you can pay bills and put money on the table!

I give credit to anyone who works no matter what the job is. They are working to support them self and family and paying taxes. If they had a choice perhaps they would change jobs but several of the jobs you listed pay good money and are union and have added benefits. My husband is a master plumber and he chose that career. He works at several construction sites and makes good money.

my partner works in waste management,it is in fact a well paid job.thank goodness for people like him that do these jobs.can you imagine what the streets would look like if we didn't have garbage men?he is not stupid or poorly educated as a previous answerer said.he is very intelligent and is amazing.I'm so proud of him.if people look down at people like him for doing a very necessary job then those people a so shallow and i think they are the stupid and uneducated ones.

why not look at it this way
the person who dropped out of school or had to quit school for some family/personal reasons needs to put food on his table too
or how about the person who is "slow" at least they have a job and is trying
now think of all those healthy well able ppl WHO SIT ON THEIR ARSES and collect welfare/food stamps making more babies to stay right where they are

I don't think that someone dreams of one day becoming those things I think they needed a job and that is what they could find. I do not think any less of them at all!

they dont just want to do it. The people who work as them either failed school or are immigrants. These people are too uneductaed to do anything else, so they pick the easy job with the low pay. They're satisifed so they stay

It's easier to get a job like that. You can have little or no education to get hired.
