Trying to order a taco "with beans instead of meat, please" last night, I got a pile of BS from the three kids working there.

"We don't do that."

I wondered how I'd been managing to eat bean Taco Bell tacos for years.

"Well, we're not allowed to. The beans burn our hands."

Given the lukewarm temperature of Taco Bell beans, that was pretty risible (and what are you doing pawing at my beans, anyway? And is the meat cold or something?), but I did not want to play Grumpy Grown-Up and argue with three teen-agers making crap wages, especially not ten minutes before they closed. (There never seems to be anybody much over 16 in Taco Bells here.)

In the US I ran into a few TBs where a bean taco posed a bit of a mystery, but (1) that was a few years ago, and (2) they still managed to do it. This was in Canada; the Taco Bell Canada site says --

...well, anyway. This isn't the death knell for Taco Bell for veggies, is it?

I can't resist adding that the usual problem here involves the non-vegetarian I'm with accidentally getting beans in lieu of meat in his tacos or burritos as well...

That's too bad, I've never run into a problem like that at Taco Bell. I'd talk to their manager if it was really a problem...however, it is taco bell...I'm sure they had put the beans away for the night and didn't want to be bothered with working those last ten minutes.

Maybe Taco Bell isn't the place for you. You could totally make a bean taco more fresh and healthy than that place. As far as the non vegan getting the beans only- maybe you aren't reading the wrappers and switching your orders.

If you worry about what you eat then why got to taco bell... Why get a "bean taco"? get a bean burrito. you seem like the person that always causes problems and gets their food spit in.

Why would you eat at Taco Bell? Do you have a death wish?

Generally Taco Bell will make you almost anything you want from their limited selection of ingredients. If you can think of something you want made from what they have, they're supposed to accomodate you.

Well yes, it is a pretty absurd situation - but if you really care about what you eat, I suggest avoiding fast food like the plague.
