yeah but too many toy wannabees ruin any perception of graffitti as art thru their mindless tagging - you know the weak poser jiffy tags on anything and everything..
REAL b-boy graf artists should put a pounding on these wannabees - less tagging and more artwork would be appreciated by most.

Religion is the main reason why law enforcement does something about graffiti. Some people get all offended because they see something they don't like, and instead of looking the other way every time they see it, they whine like crybabies about it. Should that come as any surprise though? I get so tired of reading the news headlines anymore, most of the stories is about people who got offended when they saw something they didn't like. Either that or the daily, suicide bombers blew up some people at a market in Baghdad. Oh my god, can you believe that? This is the same news story every day, they should just keep it posted on the main Yahoo page every day, rest assured it probably happened somewhere in Baghdad.
But I agree, some artists are really talented and their work deserves recognition. There should be like a place where thay can go and show everyone their talents.

Think in these terms and maybe you'll understand why graffiti is not appreciated:
Your room is fixed up just the way you like it. Your friends come over and they think it looks great too. You often enjoy hanging out in your own space and always feel comfortable there.
One day your Dad, an artist, decides he wants to make your room beautiful. He thinks surely you will appreciate that. So while you're away he paints all the walls in your room with flowers, rainbows and pretty houses. His work is art and perfectly flawless.
When you walk through the door of your room what do you see, a work of art or your room defaced? Though your Dad's painting may be a work of art, to you it is not only an invasion of your private space, but ruination of all you worked to achieve.
Think about it.

You do have a point there. Sometimes graffiti is really beautiful. In the cities there is wonderful murals of graffiti. Sometimes graffiti is just words that no one can understand. This is usually just gang stuff. There should be a law that let's real graffiti artists paint around on the walls where it is allowed. If their graffiti is violence towards Women or anyone for that matter i would not support it. But...other than that i really do think their should be a law for it!!!! I mean, where else can they show off their talent?!?!

1. Law Enforcement agencies don't like graffiti on private property. How would you like it if someone spraypainted graffiti all over your house? Also, the police aren't going to use taxpayers' money to buy a wall just for graffiti.
2. Not many people see it as art. Most people in our society believe that visual art is limited to traditional works, like sculpture and painting.

I live in the Phoenix area and the city has done just that. A special wall was constructed for the graffiti artist. I think it's great. But the numbskulls who take it upon themselves to deface private property are not artists. They're vandals.

I agree with you 100%, there should be areas set appart in cities to allow free expression using graffitti...there is a huge difference between gangland tags and street art
here in the UK at least one artist has become very well known to the 'legitamate' art world, while at the same time being a subversive...his name is 'Banksy', if you haven't already you should check out his stuff
