I know people who are always uptight and technical about things, and it's like darn near impossible to have any fun with them or joke with them at all.

Sometimes, I deliberately act technical to annoy my friends, but...only very occaisionally and only when its the right moment to.
I know what you mean, there are some people who can't help it, and have to answer everything as if they're writing a science report.
Like, I would ask "How was your weekend?" and the uptight guy would reply, "Technically, the weekend didn't belong to me, and I presume that you intended to say 'how was your experience of the most recent weekend...blah blah blah....
Wow, I went on quite a rant there...

I'm sorry you feel that way. Although some geeks and nerds might put-off some people, the other technical people are rather interesting to know - once you get to know them better. That will take time. They are very intelligent (in my humble opinion) and quite logical. Once they "let down the force-field", they can be a very loyal friend and quite enjoyable to be around.

technical language is very precise and it is helpful for same educational level people, it is considered rude to talk to others with it...
