I live in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Its the same town Bill Clinton grew up in and its a national park. The town gets its name from the thermal springs here. The springs were considered sacred by the natives that lived in the area. De Soto was the first European to see them. Before modern medicine, people from all over the world came to bathe here to try and cure various ailments. The town is in the Ouachita Mountains, which are really hills. The mountains were named after an Indian tribe that once lived here. Its a beautiful area, but it is sparcely populated. There is quite a bit of history here, and its actually very interesting. Gambling was once the main industry here, but it was illegal and was largely shut down 30-40 years ago. Now, most of the town caters to tourists. There is actually a large art community here now. My town has about 35,000 people, and the whole state has about 2.5 million. The weather here is moderate for the most part. The summers are long and hot, and the winters are short and mild. There is an abundance of wildlife here. Black bears, whitetail deer, bobcats, bald eagles can all be found around here. So a lot of the tourist industry revolves around nature lovers. It really is a nice area with nice laid back people. Most of the people in the southern states are of Scotch and Scots-Irish (Ulster Scot), African-American, American-Indian, French, and German decent. I am Scot-Irish, and Cherokee Indian.

If you google Hot Springs, Arkansas you can find tons of information about the area. I hope this helped you out. Greetings to you as well from the States.

I live in Conway, South Carolina. We're a small river town about 25 miles from Myrtle Beach, a resort town. Conway is the county seat and the area is comprised of small townships that live a mostly country lifestyle. The area is mostly woods, rivers, and swamps. The main attractions for locals are fishing, hunting, boating, and high school football. There is also a church on every corner.
If you decide to go to the beach then you'll find everything you'd expect in a resort town, except gambling.
Jobs here are on a lower pay scale. Why? I haven't been able to figure that out yet. I make $13 @ hr as an Electrian. If I lived in Boston I'd make a Union wage of about $25 @ hr.

Thanks for your interest! I live in Chicagoland (near Lake Michigan in the state of Illinois, motto: you *bet* it's flat!) I love the culture in America (minus the ignorance and the *snark* leadership). I think the US could definitely do with more tolerance and fairness, but it's a pleasant place to live. I think the area that I live in is very beautiful, and the people are mostly very nice. In my experience, statesfolk are kind of rude, but very personal toward others once we get friendly. My friend from Germany learned very fast that when an American asks "How are you?" we don't really care, which is a real shame. It's a very diverse country, and a Chicagoans answer will be quite different from, say, a southerner. And Chicagoland is nowhere near Boston either. My only knowledge of Boston is that they talk funny! We're too obsessed with celebrities, we have lots of different kinds of music, we're work obsessed and lazy at the same time, and I like to think we're funny. We like pina coladas and getting cau- no wait, that's not us that's the lyrics of a terrible song that I just got stuck in your head! My bad.

BTW, thank you for KD Tunsdell.

Well, I live in Michigan and have never been to Boston but I've heard it beautiful. In Michigan there are a lot of cow and pig farms and almost everyone around where I live farms something or other during the summer. The ting I love best about Michigan is probably the County Fairs. They are so awesome. I go to show steers and pigs and we get to stay the whole week. The fishing around here is pretty good too. I know this all sounds funny coming from a girl but hey, if you can't beat 'em join 'em. :D

I live in Arkansas on a wonderful large lake. I am retired and the cost of living in Arkansas is about a third of what it cost to live in the rest of the country. I came here from California and I absolutely love it here. It is mainly rural and lots of woods and lakes to fish and enjoy. True, it can be hot and humid in the summer, but the fall, winter and spring are wonderful.

I live in Riverside County, California.
It's called Southern California.
Whatever you've seen on TV about California, it's most definitely true.
It's always sunny or too sunny.
There's too many people, about 12 million people in just my county.
There's alot to do here, alot of clubs, parks, malls, stores, everything you really need here.
It's expensive to live here, everything, even gas prices are expensive.
But it's beautiful here nonetheless.
It's no Scotland though, which I would trade to live in in a second.

If you see me on Y! IM, IM me. I lived from California to Maryland. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was one of my favorites. 3 Major rivers and we have the second most bridges in the world! (outside of italy) and also one of the best football teams (we call american football, football. Not many people care about 'soccer' or euro football). Southern California (or we call so cal) is very nice. The weather is always nice (but very expensive palce to live!). Your always close to something (mexico, grand canyon, vegas, northern california). THe blue crab in maryland is great! only indonesia has somthing similar (the crabs are very small)...feel free to ask away!

I'm from a small town in Kansas...people take care of eachother, talk to eachother....we throw a lot of BBQs and beer-parties, hang out...go fishing (and get drunk) or go hunting (and get drunk) or just go get drunk, lol...The biggest hobbies in my area are shooting guns, 4-wheeling/mudding, and country-cruising. You'll never want for help in my home-town, and you'll never be "stranded."
