I recommend dell laptops all the time. They are reliable if you take care of them, great deals and coupons. There are coupons at http://www.24houredeals.com/Dell-coupons-23-mer.html for your next purchase.

Good luck.

Both are very good options on a budget, I went for the highest spec for lowest price I could get which at the time (about 9 months ago) was dell. Bear in mind when you buy a dell online you will get free delivery, where other online stores will charge £10-£20 if buying an acer.

Got to be Acer. We have 2. My sister buys Dell for the large company she works for and even though I could buy one cheap through her, not interested. Support is rubbish and 1 out of every 4 or 5 has to be returned. I just bought an Acer 3692, with 1.73 processor, 1gb ram, 60gb hard drive and its has 224mb intel 950gma graphics Intel only recommends the 950gma for use with Vista Home Premium. IT WAS ONLY £400.

My son has a 5612 dual core which he uses for web design. Perfect. Look at comet or ebuyer

It's not the model you should be worrying about, but the speed and the durability it offers. As the saying goes, "don't judge a book by its cover". In your case, you're wondering which model of laptop is better. Well you have to test run both to see which one is faster than the other. Also you should be considering the memory, and warranty. You also have to take into account if the laptop has everything you can ever imagine; a pre-installed web camera, internal microphone, wireless LAN, Bluetooth, and Controller Port. Read through their pamphlets and check what they offer, because you will never know that neither could be better than each other.

I'd personally go with Dell. I have a bunch of other dell equipment and it hasn't done me wrong. I've only heard bad things about ACER laptops (not their drives).

And as for the exploding batteries, THEY WERE MADE BY SONY.

I'm happy with my Acer Aspire lap top although Acer don't seem to have released a single updated driver for it in approaching two years since I bought it. I always look at this as an indicator of the level of support and committment a manufacturer gives to their products.
