Inspirational is definitely the right word.
He had his original style and drew people toward the love of nature and wildlife. He was wacky, very fun to watch, and an extremely experienced expert, all in the same time. It`s so sad that someone so full of life died so tragicaly.

Steve Irwin certainly had passion. The "Hero" label gets used too much. To me Steve Irwin was not a hero. He had some fine qualities but he was much too conventional to be a hero. Inspirational? Yes. People who go beyond themselves to achieve great things are heroes.
I'd also have to say that the accident was waiting to happen. Steve got too close to a number of sea creatures, perhaps out of some sense of duty to his viewers.
Australia has produced many other such people. Harry Butler popularised natural history and science since the 1970's. Butler had a habit of leaping from his Land Rover to run into the bush, walking out minutes later with a rare and beautiful animal that he had spotted while driving along a dusty track. His camera crew had to be alert if they didn't want to ram him from behind.

I think Steve Irwin was extremely passionate in what he cared about. You could consider him a hero for the animal world. I think it's sad that his children won't get to know him that well and may he rest in peace. Thank you and GOD bless.

I believe he was. Steve was an extremely passionate and dedicated person, who had a strong belief in his cause.
Many of us could learn from him.
He did his best to educate the public about animals and nature in an entertaining way. Although some of the things he did were a little risky, he was definitely someone that stands out from the crowd.
He will be missed.

I personally think he did a lot of good. He raised a lot of awareness about the environment and animals, particularly those which many people fear. He was an inspiration to me and one of the reasons I aspired to become a biologist. The appropriateness of his methods are debatable but I think he did more good than harm.

Certainly he is an inspirational daredevil.
He was one humane human in this rude wild world. I salute him. According to the animal-lovers world, he is a martyr.
