Disk manufacturers traditionally use base 1000 to calculate the size of their unformatted HDs.
Windows uses base 1024 (e.g. 160,000,000,000 bytes divided by 1024, divided by 1024, divided by 1024 equals 149GB).

No need for concern.

same here, I have a Seagate Barracuda 160 GB HDD which shows exactly as you have stated above. It seems the manufacturer has made it that way. I spoke to several people who own seagate 160 GB HDDs they all give the same reply. so dont worry, there is nothing wrong with the drive.

Is the 160GB hdd your OS drive, which it looks like it is. WIndows will only recognize -91-93.5% of the drive. If it is your back up drive or slave drive then windows OS will recognize the whole size of the drive (160GB)..WIndows OS has been doing that since the beginning... I have a 250GB maxtor as OS drive and it only says 233.7GB as the hdd size but my other 2 slave drives of 500gb each show true 500gb size.....thanks Go to www.belarc.com and download the free home version and run it it will tell you the size of the HDD is suppose to be. You can not fix this as Windows OS is doing it. They have always done this...Thanks

trouble-free answer... because of the fact diskpersistent makers lie approximately their disk sizes. extra complicated answer... because of the fact the 320Gb disk has 320 DISK Gb of storage earlier you format it - it particularly is 320 x 1000,000 Kb of uncooked disk storage. You format it, you lose a bite interior the formatting technique to write the format concepts and the table of contents etc. and then your workstation tells you what area you have have been given left in OS Gb... it particularly is it tells you the way a lot area expressed as 1024x1024Kb of area... homestead windows makes use of a 'larger' gigabyte than disk makers. it particularly is the way it particularly is frequently been. some format procedures use much less area than others, however the great distinction is once you're quoted 320 disk Gb it particularly is considered as in simple terms over 305Mb by the working gadget.
