i asked the same question a few weeks ago, and you know what they told me? I should flaunt it instead of covering it, since most people love freckles because they found it cute. And you know what, they also told me that some popular brand is even selling freckles in a bottle! And girl, i did appreciate it!

What you use is a decision best made by you and your doctor. Freckles are caused by sun exposure (which stimulates melanin production). They form when the sun stimulates the melanocytes and the melanin production is uneven. Because they are effectively “sun damaged skin”, you need to consult a physician for proper treatment and to ensure that there isn’t any more serious link to the freckling.
Your dermatologist can offer a number of treatment options:
Bleaching creams - Products containing hydroquinone and kojic acid can be purchased without a prescription. Higher concentrations of hydroquinone (over 2%) require a prescription. These products can lighten freckles if they are applied consistently over a period of months.
Tretinoin - Sometimes used in conjunction with other bleaching creams tretinoin (vitamin A acid, Retin-A) also helps to make freckles lighter when applied over a period of time.
Cryosurgery - A light freeze with liquid nitrogen can be used to treat freckles.
Laser treatment - Several lasers, especially ones that produce a green light, can lighten and eliminate freckles safely and effectively. Like cryosurgery, this is a simple and safe procedure with a high success rate and a low risk of scarring.

Interesting question, there are a number of 'attempts' that can actually make a change.
1. lasers/ "IPL" or intense pulse light this can be very effective in courses, however be prepaired with time, 6-8 treatments and $$
2. I have also had some results with professional glycolic peels (keep the strength lower i.e. max 40% (for prof. use only)) and do about a 8 week session of treatments. However for your skins sake dont use glycolic acid products for more than 4 months for the average person.

Who can say that any of them will work? You can certainly hope.
Use a sunscreen so they don't get worse and so you don't get melanoma.
Pharmacies sell these concentrated whiteners- apparently the active ingredient is also found in lemons. All expensive department store lines eg chanel estee lauder shiseido skii, sell whitening cream regimes too.
I read once that black people in south africa had used unregulated things like corticosteroids and it caused scarring. So please be gentle.
