Hot dry skin, dry mouth, thirsty, decrease in or dark urination, and listlessness, loss of weight. Give plenty of rehydrating fluids. Dehydration can come from an inflamed intestine, vomiting and diarrhea associated with infections.

Dehydration: Your baby has a dry mouth, isn't drinking as much as usual, is urinating less often than usual and doesn't shed tears when he cries. He may also be experiencing vomiting and/or diarrhea. Dehydration can be triggered by the presence of an infection and results in reduced blood circulation. Dehydration can occur quite rapidly in infants with diarrhea, so you'll want to watch your baby carefully if he's suffering from this problem -- especially if he's also experiencing some vomiting. Signs that your baby's dehydration may be severe include a weight loss of more than 5 percent of your baby' weight; lethargic or irritable behavior; sunken eyes; a sunken soft spot (fontanel); a dry mouth; an absence of tears; pale, wrinkled skin; highly concentrated urine (urine that is dark yellow rather than pale in color); and infrequent urination

If your baby has dark urine or dry mouth/tongue then I'd say he may be dehidrated. Check with your dr if you are worried about it. If your baby comes down with a fever or isn't urinating that often, then I would take him to the er right away. Infant dehidration is very serious. I would call your dr or take him to the er to have him checked if you are worried about it. Usually your first instincts are right.

Dehydration symptoms include: No urine in >6-8 hours, concentrated(dark yellow) urine, dry mouth, lethargy, sunken fontanel, no tears w/ crying. Symptoms may show up at different times depending on the stage and severity. Any of those symptoms warrant a call to his/her doctor. In the meantime you may start ors(oral rehydration solution) same as Pedialyte or even some plain water. If he/she is vomiting though you may need to rest the stomach, then try sips at a time every 15-20 minutes.

If your infant goes six hours without a wet diaper or has dark or strong smelling urine he or she may be dehydrated. Also check for lethargy or sunken eyes. Dehydration is a particular danger when an infant is losing fluid through diarrhea, vomiting or sweating. If you think your infant is seriously dehydrated go to the hospital. Otherwise, check with your doctor.

Your baby should potty at least as much as you do. If the urine is dark, or has a strong odor, then you should be concerned. It's been awile since I took car of an infant, but I think you should have to change a wet diaper at least every 4 hours. Preferably 2 to 3.

If you are worried you should be giving your child plenty of fluids. If your child refuses to take any fluids after a while, it might be wise to take your child to the hospital so they can administer some by drip - you dont want to risk your child getting worse. If it doesnt seem very serious, go to the chemist and they will be able to help you out. Im pretty sure most chemists stock special icypoles for dehydration which should be ideal if they are recommended for infants

Tally the amount of liguid you baby drinks in 24 hours.Call the dr. and see if that is enough liquids for his or her weight.

Children dehidrate very easily and can cause death, so if you are in doubt see the Doctor.
