Did they walk about shouting "Boulderdash" and "Oh Fiddlesticks" all day?

I think it's more about doing and saying stuff that is "forbidden" by society. If you take someone with Tourettes in to an environment where swearing is normal, the pub or the football, the cursing would deplete and other innappropriatte behaviours emerge. For instance shouting F##k the pope at the Celtic end!!

Great question!

Interestingly enough, here in Japan there *aren't* any real swearwords. Well, of course there are, but they aren't considered as inappropriate and harsh as they are in western societies. (The Japanese version of the Nintendo kids game "Zelda Wind Waker", for example, very blatantly uses the word "s h i t"!). And Tourette's syndrome isn't known here!

PS. Yes I know that Tourette's syndrome is more than just swearing!

Tourettes Syndrome is not all about swearing.

This is just a part of it. Try reading about the subject, Tourettes Syndrome is about not being able to control yourself and outbursts you may have. Does not have to be about swearing, the things people with Tourettes Syndrome don't want to say are the things they are most likely to say.

So you think we invented swearing. Wake up, people have always cursed. The two fingered salute has its origins at the Battle of Agincourt - there is nothing new.

before you ask a question like that you need to get some information of tourettes syndrome. once you get educated on the syndrome you will feel silly for even asking this question.

don,t know what they did, but it is not very funny, my 14 year old granddaughter suffers from it, it aflicts them a lot apart from swearing , she has tic movements of her face, her temper can be frightening and she started suffering epeleptic fits when she gets excited ,hopefully the doctor has said she will out grow it as she gets older

I often thought about that, they can only swear because they have heard these words.
