Nomads from western India. The myth is they were originally from Egypt, hence the name Gypsies, but this is a mistake.

They are from India but they did migrate through two different routes: one that did take them through Egypt up the Iberian Peninsular--The Black Madonna of Spain is said to be a version of the Goddess Kali (also black) from India and the other via the Caucasus and Eastern Europe.

What people did the Gypsies came from. I believe they originated from Southern Asia. Around the Persian-Indian area. Closer to India. THey got their name from Eqypt, because ancient people believe that is where they originated, but I doubt anyone thinks that anymore. They prefer to be called Roma, but I don't know why, since they're not Roman.
