Try to have a look at JWChat (http://www.jwchat.org). It is an open source chat software developed in JavaScript using AJAX. It needs a Jabber server to work. You can embed it in any or your website. Have a look at this. You may need to study it hard to implement it in your site, but once you are successfull, you will like it.
