My understanding is that dreams are the subconscioius working through of past experience or imaginings, stimulated by current conscioius preoccupations, as processed subconsciously in those periods of deeper sleep in which the primitive parts of the mind (distorting reality as experienced at the conscious level) plays a more obvious role in thought processing — i.e., in dreams, if recollected we sometimes recognize intuitions more clearly than in waking life. Though the basis of dreams may be past experience, recollecting of dreams may help us in decisions about a conscious problem whose solution may hae eluded us — therefore, dreams can be a component in making decisions about the future. See Progoff and other students of "dream work" who try to help people make practical use of Jungian techniques.

Sometimes i dream of the past cuz i think so much about it sometimes, and then again i mostly dream the present, and sometimes really weird ones too. I say NO to the future-seeing. Dreams are in our minds, only God knows the future. That's all make-believe from freaky, old, crystal gazing, money-hungry ladies. Pretending to know you're future. don't waste you're time with that rubbish.

Both. The future is a premonition. The past are memories. which could be repressed and come out in dreams.
