It's a color printer and for some reason, only the black isn't working. It's a completely new tank, exactly the same as my old one. I put my finger where the ink is supposed to come out and there is plenty of it. All the other colors work but for some reason it isn't.
Is there anything I can do to fix it?
My printer is a Canon i550. (Or at least, that's what it says on the front)

Go to the 'start button' and click on 'control panel' then click on 'printers and faxes' click your printer and troubleshoot. Most defects can be worked out this way. Also sometimes just turning the printer off for 10 seconds re-sets it, or turning off your computer and re-starting it. During the troubleshooting process you can print a test page and it should help you figure out what is wrong. Since your computer is recongizing the printer you do not need to 'ping it', It is more than likely a default in the printer. I would remove the black cartridge and put it back in to make sure that it was intalled properly.
Try these and I hope one of them works for you. Good luck

Your putting your finger on the ink tank not the print head. Over time (and faster if you don't use the printer often) the head gets clogged. Try using the cleaning cycle, or replace the head.

try to print a test page.
it is quite possible that you have run out of the black ink.
Colour printers have a black colour compartnment and three or four basic colour compartnment.
Now since we use the black colur it tends to run out.
But the coloured ink stays behinde.
All colours are formed by carefully mixing colurs.
