It is true what they say in the TV ads from the TV licensing authority!!! They are watching.

Did you know that if you haven't got a TV licence, but you go on a computer which has a TV card, even though it is not tuned in or connected to an antenna then they can get you via your IP address.

I discovered this fact this morning. I am not bothered about the licence part of it as I have one, but others who haven't may start to worry. What I do object to is that Big Brother is definitely watching us, no matter what we do.

The proof that I have about this is, that I went to delete my temp internet files, and discovered this particlar file which had the name of our PC, and that the file was reporting to tvlicensing.co.uk with our IP address as part of a great long string of numbers.

Why is everybody being so rude to this person. She is only trying to help others. For those of you who are not in the UK it may or may not interest you to know that here in the UK we HAVE to have a licence to watch TV whether it is on an ordinary set, a PC or a laptop. We have a choice of a black and white or a colour licence depending on what we can receive. Generally the one licence covers every viewing outlet in the house, but if you go away and take your laptop or portable TV with you and use that at the same time that a TV is on in your home, then you need a separate licence. There are even detector vans which come around your area, and if you have a TV which is switched on the equipment in these vans can tell to the inch whereabouts in your house the set is, and they also know every address in the country which has a licence. If you are using a receiver without a licence then you are prosecuted for it.

people this is so true, it is not a mathematical equation its a proven fact. its quite simple by the way

first thing you must do is check your internet service provider.when you sign the contract you must read the fine print, if you read carefully you might just notice that theres a fine small printed line that says that the can monitor the data on your computer from time to time.many atimes its not the licensing that is the problem but your service provider.by your ip address they can monitor your activity in which they automatically notify the licensing department.not really frightning but still.if you are streaming video to your pc you will be the first to caught.even with the tv card where you still use the aerial they can still catch you
remember!they day when you signed that contract with your internet service provider you signed away your privacy.big brother is watching and he's coming for you.YOU GAVE THEM THE RIGHT TO MONITER YOUR PC'S ACTIVITIES.if only we were interested in reading the fine print

Hmm, tell you what i'd do here! Take them to court for breach of privacy. Totally illegal, allthough i don't think the idea would work to well anyhow.
As for having a tv card in your pc... yes you would need a licence.anything capable of tuning into the tv frequencies requires a licence conected or not. Scam me thinks.

If this is the sort of thing that `Worries` you, y`know, `Big Brother` and all that stuff, then you are going to have a very stressfull life ahead of you, still, there are people in this world with REAL worries,
"can i go to the market today without getting blown up"
"Am i going to get molested again today by Uncle Billy"
"No crops again this year, will more of my children die"

Y`know, THOSE sort of Worries.

What are you talking about?

A TV card only allows you to watch TV via your computer. nothing else.

What is a TV licence? in America you don't have to have a licence to watch TV no mater where you are watching it.
