I am 13, starting Ballet next year, at 14. I will be having Ballet Class for beginner for 1h/week in the nearby Comunity Club. Do you think it is enough? I wish to extend the lesson, but not sure if it is possible that I go for two different Ballet lesson a week because they are autually learning the same thing as we do or in some cases, learning slower than mine. But the biggest problem is they don't seem to have a Teen's Class and they rarely start a Ballet Grade 1 Class. It is usually pre-primary and primary classes meant for children. I only can get 1h/week lesson! But I wish to learn till Ballet Grade 8 and be a Ballet teacher!

I agree with what axelmavy said, it doesn't matter if you are doing the same thing in other classes. In fact, the more similar classes you could get, the better. But if you can't get more same-level classes, then any and all other classes you could take is better than just 1 hr/wk. The more you are in class, the faster you'll learn, and the sooner you can catch up with other teens your age.
Work very hard in your classes and show your teacher that you are motivated to take more classes, even if that means adding classes that children take to begin with. If you do that, it is very likely that your teacher wil allow you to take more advanced classes even if they are above your level. Your main goal is to just take more classes.
I would highly advise NOT trying to practice with DVDs, as that can actually slow down your learning because the mistakes you make won't be corrected. Only classes, and lots of them, will lead you to your goal. There are no short cuts.

okay so pretty much what people have been telling you is crap from people who don't do ballet themselves (no offense to anyone). If your just starting ballet you shouldn't be dance 10 or 15 hours a week thats to much, you will most likely get burnt out. Don't practice by yourself as an alternative to taking class, that is how bad habits get started, you need a teacher to watch you and tell you if your doing it wrong before it becomes a bad habit. Practices by yourself some but keep going to class regularly. As for your question ask your teacher what you should do and if he/she would recommend another class for you to take. But remember your 13 you have lots of time, and even though you got a late start its not impossible to reach your goal. Now ballet is hard and takes commitment if you want to do it well but if you commit to theres a pretty good chance you'll make your goal happen. Hope this helped! and never stop dancing no matter what anyone says!!

yes, one hour a week is definitely not enough. you should be doing it at least 5 days in a week if you are serious about ballet. and I don't think that it's problem if in the other lesson they do (learn) the same, important is to practice. when I was in ballet school, I was also going to the class of ensemble, and when I started working in theater, beside my classes I was going to school classes, esp. for working in points. It's very important that you dance as much as possible

See if you can get a DVD or some CD's of class music and exercises and practice at home. Include warm ups, floor and bar work and cool down.
This is what I use to do when I did ballet, tap, jazz, spanish and I know do it with belly dancing and its good to practice what you have learnt in class. The more you practice the basics the better your stance and turn out will get.

hey i agree with the first answer do some stuff like the DVds etc but also have a chat to the actual teacher and see if he/she can either point you in the direction of another place so you can better yourself or even try private coaching. I do taekwondo myself in Australia (i'm 17) :) and my advice is never give up on the dream, practise like mad, and stretch and believe in yourself, if someone tells you you can't do it, just 2 spite them better yourself. I wish you the best of luck in your chosen career.
I really hope to know that one day you become a ballet teacher
take care :) good luck

it dosen't matter if you are doing the same things in the other class. that means you will get the mright sooner. Then you can move onto the next level. are you sure there are no teen begineers classes in any syudios where you live? what about adult classes... they usally except teenagers as well.

At 1hr/week you will never get to your goal. You need MANY more hours/week at least 10 and preferably 15.
