this is the kinda Indians I think of when i think Native Americans. Do those you've met look like them? Apparently these people were all real chiefs and such.

I am a Native woman. There are full blood Native people.
More and more people are becoming mixed and are not full blood. But this doesn't matter when it comes to being part of the community. Someone who is half or less could be just as involved in their culture or even moreso than someone who is full blood.
One stereotype that you might not be aware of is that all Natives look a certain way. Well even before colonization Natives came in all shades, shapes, and sizes. There were even light skinned (white skinned) Natives, and still are.
The pictures you refer to are pictures taken by famous colonizer photographers. What they did was take indians and have them dress up in a certain way and then take the photograph. Rarely these posed pictures are culturally accurate. That is why they all seem to be wearing similiar closed and seemed to be posed in certain ways. It is not culturally accurate or representative of Native people.

Yes, I've met several, from several different tribes.

And while not all of the 600 tribes originally found still exist, or have more than just a few members, there are those who are quite full blooded. Some tribes have the vast majority of their members as full bloods.

Thing is, they came from different parts of the country and originally different parts of the world; no single tribe is the definitive look of "indian" unless you're going by some inaccurate version portrayed by Hollywood.

Yes, I went to school with a guy who is. I think our idea of what native Americans look like may be a little skewed thanks to television. This guy could have easily passed for Hispanic.

How do you know that's how they didn't always look. You might have been relying on the portrayal in comic books and in the movies.
