The one I got back from the dry-cleaner was in horrible shape! Totally ruined! I'd thought that if they couldn't do a good job of it, they'd just tell me ...

Some of my ties are polyester, but some are also silk.

You could try sponging them with vinegar solution. (1tablespoon in a pint of water)
It dissolves grease and deodorises. Add a little washing up liquid if need be.

Or you could hand wash them in soap flakes (cool water) and carefully towel dry before hanging them to dry.

Perc from dry cleaning is quite unpleasant, environmentally damaging stuff - not good for you, either!

You can buy little net bags from a hardware shop or thrift shop. Put your ties in and wash at 40' dry by hanging up on a hanger .

you can put all your dirty ties in a pillowcase,and then in the washing machine...it wil protect the ties inside
