gripfill & stuff like that you need a tiny amount & is a bit dodgy...leaving marks(pull paint off)
just put the mirror up or against something if its too heavy
or just buy pics or posters what are light & put up with blue tak for now, just to make it more homely for now.. : )

RE:
how can I hang pictures without making holes in the wall?
I'm moving to a new place and I'll be renting a room in a house and I want to be able to hang things like some nice pictures or a big mirror without having to make any holes in the wall so I don' have to fix the holes in the wall before I decide to move out. I don't want to live in...

I don't think you are going to hang anything successfully without putting hole in the walls. I just discovered these hooks called Hercules hooks. They leave a very tiny, easily repairable hole in the wall and can hold up to 125 pounds of weight. This is not an advertisement, just a suggestion.

I have a bookshelf that goes from floor to ceiling with different sizes and shapes of squares and rectangles that I use to display things. You may think about different kinds of shelves, or buy decorations that you can just lean on the wall. You could buy or make something like a faux fireplace mantel to sit in front of a wall, and put paintings and statues on top of, or you could design something similar. Maybe just a stand with some sturdy triangles at the bottom, and a 2 by 6 layed across the top to hold things. You can make that as attractive as your creativity allows.

Hey go to Walmart and you can find the product made by 3M within the hardware department that does not require holes in your walls. They stick onto the wall and when you get ready to take them down the only thing you have to do is pull on the release lever and it comes off without any hassles!!!

There is hanging tape but I don't like it. Sometimes when you remove it it takes the paint off. There is suction cups but I don't like them either, they will not hold anything that is heavy. For my drywall walls I use drywall hooks. It will leave a small hole when you take them out but not nearly as bad as a nail. A dab of white toothpaste works great to patch the small hole.

Don't hang them or use stick pad, they will peel the paint and some of the drywall off, buy a few little tables and place your items on them. But if you must hang them them buy speckling paste for the numerous holes.

They make plastic hooks that will hold many things but I had problems with the ones I tried when I went to remove it you are supposed to just pull a tab to release its grip but it didn't work and made a much bigger problem than a hole that can easily be filled with Spackle.

3M makes a hanger that is removable. It sticks up with an adhesive. When you want to take it down, pull a tab and it releases. Check office supply stores.
