Wouldn't it be great if our political leaders could make friends out of enemies?

I am thinking about al the wars being waged in the name of freedom and democracy

There must be a bigger payoff that persuedes political leaders to wage war instead of peace

There would mean world peace which is unachievable; but a good try. Don't forget, politics are dirty thus it would be pointless to ask politians to make friends out of enemies.
