I would like to recycle glass bottles to make them into vases, but I am unable to cut off the tops of the bottles cleanly, even after clamping the bottle securely. Most class cutters work well only on flat surfaces.

What you need is a bottle cutter. You might be able to find one in a hobby store. I have one from the late 70's that my mom used to own. Here is a link so you know what one looks like.

there are bottle cutters at craft shops that are rather much less costly and ordinary to apply. verify there. A window installer will many times decrease glass for you besides the fee is minimum. perhaps $ 3 to $ 5.00. once you get it decrease use a very good grain sandpaper and sand the sides to maintain them from being so sharp. you could decrease your self incredibly on the sides in case you do no longer try this. you will no longer have the skill to be certain the exterior scratches in case you utilize the main effective sandpaper. good success- it sounds like a funky fish bowl.
