NGO is an acronym for "Non Governmental Organisation". These organisations are usually funded by donor money to perform specific social and development tasks. For example, an organisation is formed by concerned people and it relies on donor money to buy anti-retrovirals to dish out to poverty stricken natives in Botswana(for example) who are HIV +. The government of Botswana plays no part in that NGO's relief work.
