After seeing so many eye injuries across the nhl for so long (forced Al MacInnis to retire...) Do you think the league should set up some kinda rule where:

When you enter the nhl you must wear a visor, but if your already there than you dont...kinda thing..

almost the same thing like they did with helmets way back when...?

Yes they should...I have noticed that the guys wearing visors are getting bigger ones. They cover 3/4 of the face now.

Visors should remain optional because, if you ask any player who has gone both with and without the visor, they will tell you they can see the play much better without it. Now, eye injuries are more likely to happen without a visor, that is granted. But, they will never be fully eliminated unless they were all to use those cages or shields that kids wear, which they won't unless a player has a reason like they're coming back from a mouth injury or something. Most players wear visors in this league because they just came out of junior and are used to it, they don't want an eye injury, or they just had an eye injury and they don't want one so quickly after coming back, or it's as Don Cherry said "The only guys who wear visors are Europeans and French guys," which is actually not too far from the truth if you ever watch a game. Granted, not all Europeans and French guys wear them, but a lot who do fall into one of those categories. In conclusion, they should just leave it up to the players own discretion.

That time will come for sure. A higher percentage of players use shields every year. The stigma attached to the shield has largely dissipated and it's only a matter of time before the nhl will be an all-visor league, either through mandate or natural evolution.

Just consider the young players coming into the league since the lockout ended. Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Kopitar, Stastny, Parise, Michalek, Perry, Wolski and so on. In fact, Jordan Staal is one of the few youngsters that come to mind that opt out of the extra protection.

These players represent the future of the league and they'll be playing long after the Shanahans, Lidstroms, Numminens and Prongers have retired.

they are grown men dont think the nhl will enforce this anytime soon. what they should enforce and change is the touch up icing rule adapt the no touch icing rule and save more players that way . since the helmet came along players have lost respect for the other players with all the high sticking going on you can blame visors or helmets or being to protective about the suits of armor these guys wear now.

It will be a rule some day, right now I see players starting to wear visors that didn't use them before. The players are highly paid for their skills, I would think that owners would do their best to insure they don't lose players to injuries that can be avoided or minimized by wearing the shields.

There was a player not too long ago (Berard?) who nearly lost an eye from getting a stick in the face. He has almost no vision in that eye and AFAIK he had to consider retirement.

NO I do not think they should HAVE TO wear visors. But they can if they want to! If everybody had visors then nobody would ever get injured in the face, it would take some exitment out of the game! Besides, If a player just wants to look COOL without a visor then let him get hurt! He will learn one day that the best thing to do is where a visor! Like last season Cheechoo got hit in the face with no visor, and ever since then he has been wearing the visor!

Yes I believe that they should wear visors. A lot of players have been injured: Stevie Y, Brian Berard, Mats Sundin. So many superstars wear them and it doesn't affect their play. I also agree that since wearing visors and helmets the players have gotten more relaxed on hitting the head. Maybe they should deal with that also.

Why force someone to wear a visor or a helmet for that matter? If I played hockey I definitely would but Jerry Seinfeld said it best in one of his acts. 'The helmet law is idiotic, why force protect a brain that is functioning so poorly that it wont even protect itself?' These guys know the dangers, if they choose to run around without visors then I say go for it.

Stats say eye injuries became worse once players started wearing visors. People are more careless with their sticks now than they once were. In the old days before helmets if you got your stick up on somebody they cleaned your clock and you were careful not to do that again.

i think they should. players are getting hit in the face with pucks or sticks and it can result in serious injuries. i've seen some players wearing the full face mask...but that's usually only when they're injured. i think the next generation or so of NHLers will start wearing the full face mask that has a visor in it. and soon the vets will follow suit.
