I’m one of the writers for Gilbert Guide (the foremost resource for everything senior care), and I have some suggestions for nursing home fundraisers:

•Intergenerational dances. Why not hook up with a local junior high or high school and host an intergenerational dance. If you charge $5–$10 per ticket, you could raise quite a bit of money.
•Family Feast night. This could be a candlelit dinner for residents and family members for a small fee. When they arrive, you could have a 50/50 raffle in conjunction—half the proceeds go to the cause, and half go to the winner.
•Family and friends bowl-a-thons. In April, my company will be participating in a bowl-a-thon to raise money for Little Brothers, Friends of the Elderly. Every bowler is responsibly for raising $250. If loved ones participated and each got ten friends to sponsor them for $25 each, that money would add up quickly!
•Selling on E-bay!! Many residents probably have items they hardly use—some might actually be worth a lot of money to collectors. Perhaps you could send out a letter to loved ones asking if there are any keepsakes or collectibles they’d like to donate for an E-Bay auction. In your ad listing, make sure to specify the purpose of the auction. That just may entice more people to bid!
•Chair Exercise-a-thon. Residents can get their family members to sponsor them—for every ten minutes they engage in chair exercise, their loved one donates $5, or something along those lines.
•Senior Talent Show. Get the residents up and performing! Perhaps some of them could sing, tell a few jokes or even engage in some wheelchair dancing. Charge for admission and have a raffle, as well.
•Picture day. This is an opportunity for family members to get dressed up and have photos taken with their loved ones. You might even get some cheap costumes so the photos can be themed (like at the carnival). You can have western shots, musical shots (with fake instruments.) Be creative! You can charge anywhere from $10-$20 for an 8”x10” photo. Families will be thrilled to donate to the cause and get a commemorative photo, as well!

I’ve inserted the link to a website you might find helpful for generating additional ideas.

I wish you the best of luck in raising some funds for your facility. I’d love to know which ideas you choose and how it all turns out! You can email me at info@GilbertGuide.com.

Best of luck—

Maybe quilting a decent quilt and raffling it off? I know lots of ladies in nursing homes probably used to hand quilt a lot.... this may be a great social time for them as well, as they quilt it... or even just tie it. Quilting groups are great to call and contact for donating a top for the quilt. I know that we made over $1200 on a quilt raffle just a couple years ago!

aust6ion off your staff for a day of house cleaning, yard work or what ever.

This shouldbring a lrge chunck of dough. Also invite the local elected officalls. They are willing to put out more money for a good cause.
