About 60% of black children are currently growing up in single-parent homes, much higher than any other ethnic group. (The 2000 census set the number around 57%, and current figures by the Census Bureau and other studies show much higher numbers, but I don't believe them. I'll wait for the 2010 census.)

We deal with them by putting them on perpetual welfare as long as they're willing to be knocked up, we have a severely oppressive child-support enforcement system in most (all?) states, and we just raise taxes to cover the bills.

I think it depends on the woman. I am a single mother who has never been married, never been on welfare, never had a "handout" and always had a full time job. I am also pursuing my bachelor degree to better support us. I do the pumbing, change my own oil, play the nurse, and pay MY OWN BILLS. I also know more then one other mother who is single and is 100% financially responsible for themselves. Blanket judgements are a bad idea. What about the MARRIED men on disability that I am paying for????

You have to consider some of the blame goes out to dead-beat fathers as well. Sounds to me like you're putting the entire blame on the mothers alone. The men are just as responsible...
Having a difficult time taking your statement serious...
But don't listen to me-listen to real mothers below me...

I'm proud of all the single moms who decided to keep their child rather than killing it through abortion.... That child is going to grow up and pay your social security... who knows... maybe become President of the United States....

Why is just that the moms need to take responsibility... why not mention the dead-beat father who got them pregnant in the first place?
