I have the worst time waking up in the morning... often late as hell and rushing out of the door. Sometimes, I oversleep and that's bad. At night I can not go to sleep at a regular time. For the reasons that by the time I get my daughter to wind down and my house settled, I always have some thing else that requires my attention. I really would like to go to bed at a decent time and become an early riser...especially for my daughter's sake but I can not do it at all. I do not want to try sleep medicine for it might make my situation worse. And I know this sounds pathetic but I have four alarms and still that don't work. Help, help, help...

Simplify your life, honey. I had the same problem winding down at night, and my daughter was constantly late to school because of MY tardiness. Made me feel terrible, so I knew I had to change my ways.

This may get me some thumbs down, but it worked for me:
1. Get some exercise throughout the day; yoga is a good place to start, and your daughter could do it with you. It's GREAT for the circulation and relaxation.

2. Make sure you are eating a healthy diet. If you are not getting enough potassium, for instance, it can really mess with your sleep cycles and such.

3. Say no to things that aren't life or death situations. Concentrate on getting your home life in order.

4. Set a bedtime and stick to it. No excuses. 10:00 means 10:00 (or whatever time you chose). Your body will eventually get used to the routine.

5. If you seriously are afraid of taking sleep aids, eat foods that make you naturally sleepy (turkey, milk, ice cream, hot chocolate, etc.....)

6. If the foods don't work, try some mild sleep aids like Tylenol pm, or if you suffer from allergies take benadryl at night if you are not allergic.

7. If all else fails, talk to your doctor about options.

Good luck. Changing your lifestyle is not easy.

you should simply set yourself a deadline - if you haven't gotten something done by, say, 11pm, then you'll just have to leave it till tomorrow. Always have a warm/hot shower before going to sleep, it should help giving you a cozy/sleepy feeling; and NEVER continue doing some lists/worrying about things while already in bed, it will definitely not help you falling asleep ....

hope this helps! :)

"I always have some thing else that requires my attention."

So go to bed same time as your daughter - but get up earlier and then do the things " that requires my attention."

old rule - same sh*t differnt day. The stuff is always going to be there to be done.

I've just dragged myself out of bed too. I hate getting up. I'm going to jump on your band wagon. It's too early!
