Seismologists are aware that Canada's west coast is located on a subduction zone where there is continuing seismic activity. This is caused by the friction between the oceanic plate and the crustal plate as the oceanic plate is forced under the crustal plate. Both plates
" float" on the underlying mantle and associated with such a zone there is often rising magma which gives rise to volcanoes such as Mount Barker. If another large ( say class 9 on the Richter scale ) earthquake occurs in the Seattle - Vancouver area, the damage caused will depend on the exact location of the epicentre. The damage is caused by waves of motion which travel through the bedrock out from the epicentre. If these waves of motion are propogated into the sea, a large tsunami may result.

Um,
Your earth science 11 credit shouldn't come from us. Try reading your textbook. Start with the section on what causes earthquakes.
Here are some helpful details for you:
A subduction zone is an area where one plate is slipping underneath another one.
The epicentre is the point where an earthquake originates, and is strongest.
Seismologists are scientist who study earthquakes (intensity and locations).
tsunami is a huge wave caused by an earthquake under water.
Magma is lava when it is under ground.
the richter scale is a scale that we use to measure the intensity of earthquakes.
Hope that helps a bit.
