"Our two minds .... One is an act of the emotional
mind, the other of the rational mind. In a very real
sense we have two minds, one that thinks and one that
feels" (Daniel Goleman, Emotional Intelligence,
Bloomsbury Publishing, London, 1996, page 8).
The emotional mind creates shackles and chaos. However,
it is the rational mind, which deals with reason and logic,
is most difficult to overcome. Assessing every thing with
reason appears most logical to most of the men. However,
The very logic of reasoning has its own limitations:
In the 1930s, Austrian mathematician Godel proved a
theorem which became the "Godel theorem" in cognition
theory. It states that any formalized 'logical' system
in principle cannot be complete in itself. It means
that a statement can always be found that can be
neither disproved nor proved using the means of that
particular system. To discuss about such a statement,
one must go beyond that very logic system; otherwise
nothing but a vicious circle will result. Psychologist
say that any experience is contingent - it's opposite
is logically possible and hence should not be treated
as contradictory.
The Upanishads call the emotional component of mind as
Chitta and the rational component of mind as Manas. In
general, women excel in Chitta and men excel in Manas.
Men have the ability to transcend the limitations of
Manas and activate the higher component of mind Buddhi
(intellect or wisdom) which deals with philosophical
thinking. But this component has age limitations:
In English, 'flourit' means the age of dawning or
flowering of wisdom; it also means the age of 40. (See
a multi-volume dictionary in a library). Generally,
Buddhi starts funtcioning after the age of 40 years,
but it may take longer for others. You can not blame a
teenager or a youth for not having it. It is a general
observation that only person aged beyond 40 years are
called intellectuals. You will rarely find a woman
being called an intellectual because 'flourit' is not
well defined for them.
The 'flowering' does not promise an automatic process
of growth of intellect. Man has to put his highest efforts
to make it grow to have the highest power of discrimination.
It is wisdom which enables man to transcend the limitations
of human mind. It is the highest priced asset because
it enables to access the deepest levels of consciousness.
The science of Yoga was developed for this very purpose.

? i'm a student in sociology and i dont understand this one too well....
im gonna try...if i miss it, sorry, but i like the challange....
it is true that materialism has contributed to the advancement of mankind...yet in our intellectual advancement, the basic truth of discrimination and prejudice is a relevant on ongoing problem that people cannot find a resolution to. whether intellect is the center of consciencesness is a debatable issue, because i dont believe it defines character in a person, which i believe is ONE of the critical factors that defines conscienceness...just because one is smart doesnt gurantee that they will personify the moral characters necessary to maintain a functional, civilized community - world history of famous leaders who fell justifies this truth. In order to be an effectual leader one must have a COMBINATION of intelligence and good character and tolerance of diversity in the hope of world peace.
what shackles our mind the most is our own conceited self-beliefs that what matters the most is ME, instead of WE,. until discrimination is addressed socially and individually to eradicate the stereotypes that are acquaired through our social circles we are raised in & are our inner circle, it will never go away. and this, will not happen anytime soon, sad to say, because we all are raised by prejudice parents who perpetuate the discrimination in expressed thought and deed, whether subtle with innuendos and comments or blatent with discriminatory acts. we need to free our minds of the vices of discrimation with TRUTH & LOVE, which will then, set us all free (individually & corporately).
again, if i missed it, oops. i'm going back to sociology.

Ur question seems 2 b very interesting 2 me.
By "removing shackles" I think u mean to say "creativity" or is it sum thing else.
We live in two worlds,i.e., inner world n outer world or physical n pyschological worlds.
and both of these worlds are almost opposite of each other. The things which play an important role in our outer world may create havoc in our inner world.
For eg if we want to succeed in outer world we have to remain unsatisfied of what we have n wat we're so that we are drived continuously to move forward, but in inner world we can be successful only if we have attained the position of full satisfaction of wat we've n wat we're.
Our mind is being stretched in two opposite directions in situations like these and similar to these. Thus these things create an imbalance and thus chaos in our minds, to wat to follow and wat not to follow.
Demanding help from GOD can help us *** out of situations like these. Request HIM to show u the right path n HE will be there to show u.
