History, literature, and art/artistic technical contrivances are extremely useful in that they want to help us survive and develop, but because of our time and physical limits we have to always rationalize our approach to them, we have to always wish a more rationalized specialized approach to them, we have to always wish to experience some synthesis of the work done or being done in them and about them, where almost each one of them is treated separately and with specialists working as historians, and as writers of whatever sort you may find, and as artistic ... managers, who only may say to be competent and/or teachers, professors, in the particular subject in which they have specialized oftenmost documented thru some university affiliation.
Knowledge is that which may make us survive in our jungle-world. We have to contrive arts, artificial things, machines, whatever in order to try to gain our survival in this World, in order to try to make most possible human beings communicate together and possibly unite without always concretely wishing to exterminate each other - because the absolutely worse enemies of human beings on this Earth are other human beings.
History wants to tell us who and what we have been and how we have tried to exterminate or subdue each other and how we have tried to necessarily tolerate each other and even to unite, and so also to give us ideas of what we might become; literature even thru exemplary untertaining fictions wants to improve our understanding of ourselves and of our world thru engaging our fantasy, our perception, our language, our improvement of our own language and so on; art in its many many different forms wants the same as literature plus all the other possibilities that may be made with and out of concrete or artificial things, as art is involved in whatever tools and facilities of whatever conceivements that may be contrived.
TV is a technologic tool of electronic art showing to us pictures of all possible aspects of life worth being shown. TV shows may involve all possible aspects of our life and of all life on Earth.
Conclusively knowledge is utmost useful unto our own existence, and our culture, thru our history, literature and art, is the expression of our knowledge. TV shows, maybe even in some awkward forms for some interpreters of them, may mirror aspects and potentialities in our way or ways of living.
So, even whatever else existing out there being made into an object of show, may necessarily mirror, or potentially mirror, our knowledge in all its forms (historical, literary, artistic, spiritual).
Good luck to you!

Its just a phenomenon which will change over the time. Once upon a time people believed the world was flat. Now, they realise its not. Once people used to believe in something without evidence, just mere heresay, mere belief, mere faith... over the time, it will change because wisdom grow out of realisation, not faith or belief.
It doesn't matter if a hundred or thousand people belief in one thing, what matters most is just for one person to understand and see clearly the truth.

Our current president asking us to believe that the war in Iraq was anything but about OIL without looking at the hard evidence that shows now that Iraq was not involved in the 9-11 attacks

Education is useless unless you use it to attain knowledge. I think you watch too much tv, try reading and meditating on self, you might learn something.
