It is. But when you look at the yard next door it looks greener because you don't see the dirt. If you look down at your grass you see dirt and this makes it look less green. When you go over there and look at your yard again it will then be the greener grass.

Life also works the same way. Something looks better over there but when you get there looking back seems better.

I'm afraid that you are loosing the point of this "saying"
The point being--- the grass IS AS GREEN ON THIS SIDE AS THE OTHER----but people have this natural ability to want things that they can not have--- and as opposed to appreciating the thngs that are right at hand--- they look to the things that are out of reach and long for and hope for and worry over those things without once seeing the good things that are right at hand and easily accessible

This "saying" came about from the common practice among cattle to stand at a fence and struggle to reach grass growing on the other side while grass that is just as green and tall and for all intents-- the same as the grass that is growing all around them !! If you had been raised on or around farming and ranching communities THIS fact would be in your experience because you would have witnessed it for yourself a thousand times by the time you were grown !!!

The use of this statement is a "tongue in cheek" reference to people wanting what they can't have easily while stuff just as good is all around them !!!

The grass is always greener on the other side. But it’s just as hard to cut.

It is only greener on the other side if you choose to see it that way. In my case, it doesn't seem greener anywhere around me including my grass, to all the way around me for at least six zip codes!!! Ergo, I am satisfied. Good question!!!
