Yep. I have worked with one. I thought they were a manly woman, then I thought they were a womanly man, then I just asked. He said people often think that same thing but never ask.
I used to have a boss that was a big dike, she dressed like a man and was manly looking. We used to like to bet on what new workers thought she was!

Yes.. there is an "it" that works at a grocery store near me, and me and my husband argue every time we see "it", whether it's a male or female. The person even has a name-tag that says "Pat", like the SNL character (what are the odds?)- so that's no help either.
"It" is a rather large person, so any breasts that are present just sort of make one big uni-breast. The clothing is no help. "It" appears to wear large mens dress shirts, but with sorta feminine patterns like really faint blue roses. "It" wears jeans and sneakers. "It" has very visible dark hair on it's upper lip, but not thick. It has dark hair on it's arms.
My husband thinks it's an extremely masculine female, I think it's a lonely male- not homosexual, but more like a 40-year old virgin that still lives with his Mom. My mother-in-law thinks it's a female that's taking a lot of hormones. It's completely baffling.

lt's improper to stare at people but you have no choice if you want to know the gender of the person standing beside you. lt's embarrassing to ask so l content myself by surreptitiously glancing from time to time.
l often correctly guess after that.

surely, sure! there is this individual who comes on my bus. dresses like a guy, yet has great long hair and has female positive factors, yet dresses like a dude. i won't be able to see any breast shapes on the chest. So it fairly is fairly troublesome to tell. i haven't even heard this individual talk yet. VIVA l. a. RAZA!

Yes, many times. I usually look towards their chest to see if they have breast. Sometimes that doesn't work though and you just never do figure it out. Would be weird if they had an androgynous name as well.

It's very uncomfortable because you have to watch what you say.
Sometimes I call people m'am or sir and I can't really do that with them.
It's uncomfortable and you run the risk of deeply hurting someone's feelings.
