Dogs seem to dream. And ravens are very good at thinking up new ways to get around problems; especially when food is involved.
I've never really thought about it that way, but I don't see why not!

Humans have the ability to recall the past and project into the future. Brain researchers are learning that the two activities are related in the brain, in order to make future projections, we need to recall the past. Making a future projection is a critical survival ability in animals, and this is the stuff of "imagination". So, the answer to the question is, "Yes, animals indeed do have imagination. They depend on it for survival."

A good example, is the Grizzly Bear. They say a bear, which has no cubs knows no fear, but a mountaineer in May, 1980, went to explore the remote Hayes group of mountains in Alaska, he was warned about soloing so far from rescue. He was lucky to survive the trip, as he ended up killing a grizzly bear cub by accident. However, he'd been warned that these animals can think. Grizzly Bears are enormous & heavy & are unbelievably dangerous. He documented the whole account in a story called Hunted - a true story of survival. The man's name is David Fletcher. However, the bear chased him until she was killed herself. But as he came to learn, killing the cub was one of the worst mistakes anybody can make. It wasn't the feelings of guilt, but the fact that the cub's mother was driven into a full-blown rampage to take him out. As he was trying to escape to safety, he heard the roaring of the bear as she came charging through the forest, destroying all before her. Although Bears can think, it may be part of a natural survival instinct. Dogs almost certainly dream. If you watch a dog, which has been asleep for a while, you may notice a few bouts of strange behavior. For example, the dog will whimper or make quiet barks & even kick out at times. Cats, I am unsure of, as I haven't actually noticed any behavior when they're asleep. However, if you watch a cat hunt, you may notice how it judges the distance to its intended target. They select a target, primarily, this is chosen instinctively. In a nutshell, predators instinctively weed out the old & weak. After the target is selected, the cat will judge the distance, & will prepare to bring them down. None of it is really possible without thinking & imagination, all of which is developed through pure instinct.

My dog gets agitated when sleeping as if she's dreaming.
Also, she knows exactly how to tease/irritate to get attention so yes I would say that animals, in particular dogs do have imagination.

Only primates like chimpanzee, monkeys and human beings have imagination as their brains are most evolved in comparison to other animals. Except primates the only other animal which can imagine is dog (of any kind).

Maybe: they get upset and runaway when somebody new is getting closer to them. This makes me think they can IMAGINE that someone could hurt them someway: This could be considered a kind of imagination, I guess....
