Water or any type of drinking fluids will affect the amount of HCG present on a HPT. The best time to test is the first wee in the morning, when you havent had a drink in a while. Even then, at this stage, if you are, your body may not be producing enough of the hormone for it to be show pregnant on the test. The peek HCG levels in pregnancy is at 8 weeks (or six from predicted ovulation, give or take a few days.) So please be patient.....
If you have any doubt or you period still hasn't shown by the end of what would be a second monthly cycle, consult your doctor.
I wish you well.

It does say on the instructions not to drink large amounts of fluids before a test. You can get negative results when you are pregnant anyway so it might not be that you drank lots of water, sometimes the pregnancy hormone just isnt high enough to detect. Thats why its best to take the test first thing when the levels of HCG are concentrated more from sitting in your bladder all night. Good luck x

yes drinking lots of fluid that early in a pregnancy can water down the hormones do the test first thing in a morning when hormone levels ore higher or after going to the toilet dont have a drink for an hour and then go to the toilet again you only need a small amout of wee for the test to work (if trying the latter usually best if you wee into an old cup and dip the pregnancy test into it)

There is a possibility that you diluted your urine so much that that test didn't pick up the hormone, but if you were a week late, it seems unlikely. The levels of the hormone should have been at such a level by then that it wouldn't matter.
But test again. Definitely worth a go.

Go get a HCG blood test its the only certain way, you should be at least 2 weeks pergnant to take any test as the hormone levels can be too low before that to turn positive
