For the same reason that airplanes are. Hand building is more time consuming and labor-intensive than robot assembly line mass production.

Cars like Bentley, Rolls Royce, Bugatti, Ferrari..., they run an old tradition of quality usually hand made products issued in small series with exclusive equipment of highest class, which in consequence means higher, sometimes disproportionally high prices...If you buy a Mercedes or BMW, I suppose you should pay less money for roughly same quality, but they won't look altogether so exclusive ...

Some people need to display their importance and Bentley`s are one of the vehicles that makes these people feel special.

Partly because they are good cars, but mostly because there are very few of them. It costs more to make cars in small numbers, but also people are willing to pay more because there are few of them and they want others to see that Bentley name

If your asking this question you obviously should not ever be allowed to even look at one let alone own one.As the other answers have shown this is a car of prestige,Its like asking why they don't race Dodge vipers in a Honda civic class.

a) because they are completely hand built
b) Only use finest materials for interiors, ie leathers and woods
c) superior technology and performance
d) simple supply and demand basically they are $300K because they can be.
