From my experience most apartments that are "No Pet Apartments" do allow small caged animals like birds, hampsters, or even fish. Sometimes land-lords will add a small fee of 10 or 20 dollars to your rent in order for you to own a pet. HOWEVER you do not know this unless you ask the land-lord. It would be foolish to ask now because the land-lord may require you to get rid of your pet. You have put yourself in quite the perdicamint. You really should have consulted your land-lord first.

My advice at this time is to keep quiet about the pet!! Don't tell anyone that lives in the building with you about it. If your land-lord or their contractor has to come in for repairs make sure you make arrangements in advance for your animal to stay with a friend or family member until the work is done. If this is too risky for you then "come clean" with your land-lord...(sort of) lol...tell him/her that you were put on the spot and had to take the animal off someones hands. You will either get the good or bad news regarding keeping your pet.

Finally....be careful with this. Some ferrets have a hit and miss policy in regards to their litter box. While they excrement is small, because they are small, you still should be vigelent about cleaning up after it so that there are no sighns of animal life. :) Also...give your ferret lots of toys and things to do as some ferrets like to scratch around doorways when they are bored. Some can actually shred the carpet a little bit. How would you explain that? Good luck in your decision!

Well, I have to say FERRETS ARE THE BEST PETS EVER! But actually if it says no pets, ferrets aren't allowed either. Man, you can't get rid of the little guy though. Man, you've got to move! Ferret's are just too cool!

There are two ways you could handle this situation:
1) you could ask the apt complex if a ferret would be ok to have, or
2) you could just go ahead and keep your ferret. Make sure he doesn't make bad odors and get him out of the apt when they spray for bugs.

honestly don't even tell them. When they say no pets they mean no pets they don't want their rugs and stuff to be ruined. I have never come into anyone having a problem with ferretts in apts. I have lived in an apt for 6 years where there is no pets allowed. They don't say anything. As long as you keep it clean so the smell doesn't get out of the apt and keep the rug clean don't worry. Oh and of course don't let anyone know you have it. I let my ferrett out for an hour everyday and keep an eye on him if he backs up to poop or pee i pick him up and put him in his cage until he does his stuff then reward him and let him back out. I like to walk him but since i can't around the apt i have to go to the park. I wouldn't worry about it just keep it a secret.

If it says no pets they have a right to make you get rid of it. They generally make rules like that because almost any animal can cause odors. Once an odor is in an apartment it's very difficult to remove it. If there are carpets they tend to hold the odor very stubbornly and they *might* be able to charge you for replacing it.

Just make sure to hide it when they come to spray for bugs or fix anything. And yes it means ferrets.

Well ask the apartment complex. My apartment said they don't allow hamsters, but birds are ok and no fish. What the hell?? Well I got a hamster anyways and they didnt care.

THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN KNOW FOR SURE IS BY ASKING YOUR LANDLORD. DO IT HYPATHELICALLY, LIKE "I AM THINKING ABOUT GETTING A FERRET, DOES THIS VIOLATE THE NO PET POLICY?"

they will probably mean all pets,
but ferets dont make any noises or need to go outside to use the toilet.
dont be worried about it, just clean it regulary so no one will smell it and dont let any other apartment uses see it.
