I also have an unusual name (Andea) and people can almost never pronounce it correctly the first time. It bothered me a bit but people almost always told me that it is a beautiful name because its so different! I think unusual names are the best, it gives a sense of uniqueness. Especially if the mother and father put a lot of thought into deciding the name and why they want to give that name to their child. Go for it and have fun doing it!

I think everyone will get teased for something when you're in school. I'm sure if you have an unusual name you will get teased at some point, but its not like the kids are going to tease you for 12 years over it. My name is Elaina and I don't think its wierd, but there weren't any other Elaina's in my school. I didn't really get teased over it, but the first day of class or when there was a sub they would pronounce it wrong. My sister's name is Jessica and when I was little I was jealous cause no one said her name wrong lol. As I grew though I liked my name more and more because I didn't get confused with anyone else.

First of all, to the girl who compared Ash to Beelzebub, wtf? Ash is a handsome name, as it is a name for a strong, remarkable tree. There is a tradition in my fiance's family that the boys are named for trees, and the girls for flowers. I plan to keep up this tradition, and my fiance and I will name our first son Ash. Don't try to tell me that I 'have no brains' as I have 2 college degrees. And I have put plenty of thought into this subject.
My name is Shauna. I didn't get teased for it, but I've never met anyone who spelled it correctly right away. I always get "Shawna" (which I personally do not like). And for some reason, 80% of people I meet don't bother looking at my name or trying to say it correctly. I usually get Shannon, Shayna, or Sandy. People are weird.
Though I don't think you should name your kids the way Jason Lee does, I don't think there's anything wrong with picking a name outside the norm.

No I did not get teased but they thought I was the opposite sex to what I am, thats almost like getting teased about your name. I have known people with unusual or weird names and they all have been teased

There is a fine line between unusual and weird. I like less common names because that gives your child a unique name. I'm Nicole and there were always around 2 or 3 of the same name in my classes growing up. So we were always called by first and last name.
I named my daughter Rainy so she wouldn't have that problem. Only down side is people asking "Oh, was it raining the day she was born?" and no..it was a beautiful sunny day outside.

my first name's pretty common, so no problem there. however, my last name is carls--very foreign sounding in the Philippines. and while i was growing up it was at the height of the popularity of Carlsberg Beer-- i often got teased that my family owned the company and that i should give out free beer! (not really bad teasing come to think of it.) well, my point is, at one time or another we may get teased for our names. i just look at it this way: other people are simply envious of the name we have! but to be on the safe side, we should NOT give our kids ridiulous names--no matter how cute-sounding it is.

my name is genel and growing up all i wanted was to be named jennifer or some other normal name. now that i am older i really like my name. it makes me differant. i even used it as a middle name for my daughter and hope that it becomes a name that is passed down through the generations. sure in school i got teased because of it but now that i am older i know that a name is just a name what matters is what kind of person you are.

I am proud of my unusual name now that I know the significance of it, Kids will tease other kids no matter what so don't worry about that. But when I was smaller I did wish I was a Lisa or a Karen rather than a Salita but I am never confused with someone else,

i could see not naming your child something that completly "off the wall" but i dont see a problem naming your chid something a little different and beside usually that name that is considered "different" usually becomes pretty popular!!! im naming my daughter Haylee and ive gotten alot of people asking me why im spelling it that way, why not just spell it "normal". Whats Normal!!!??? there are several ways to spell it, some like the ie, others like the ee, others like the y in it! i dont really think there is a "normal" way to spell it!!! there may be more people that choose to spell it with an ie, or without the y, but thats one reason that i did like it cuz its not the SAME spelling i see for the name ALL THE TIME!!!

My name is Heather. Not unusal, but not on the top 100.
I like different names, but Apple, Blankie, Suri and other names are just plain mean to the kid. He/She is going to have it for the rest of there life, so consider it. I saw an answer ahead of me saying she has the name Violetta. I think that is just a gorgeous name. A name like that is great, but a name like Whereiswaldo is not. Its not just the name either, my name is Heather and i get teased about what it rymems with. Feather, Weather, Leather..ect ect. I used to get teased for "Heather is not as light as a feather!" and it really hurt. But its your kid, and you want to give it a cruel weird name,a nice different name or a classy classic name, go right ahead. Nobodys stopping you.
