Could be an allergy. Grass can cause this type of eye scratching especially if your dog likes rolling & rubbing her face along the ground. Even rubbing on carpets can start a vicious circle of iching. I have also had dogs who have been allergic to their food because the manufactuers started adding yeast to it. Try to work out what you think she could be allergic to. The other possible cause could be an auto immune type of thing. I agree with you that vets charge too much to just look at your dog & then rub their hands together in anticipation of an ongoing problem which can make them lots of money. It does tend to put you off going. If the problem continues you will have to go for your dogs sake. I hope she gets better on her own if you can figure out whats causing it. Good Luck.

I would assume allergy's but it would be best to get it checked out sooner rather than later - wouldn't you much rather pay $20 to the vet to tell you it was nothing major rather than leaving it and ending up with a very unwell dog and a VERY hefty vet bill. in the mean time as silly as that sounds if your dog won't stop scratching it's eyes put some socks on it's legs (hold them in place with elastic) then at least if it does keep scratching it's claws will not be able to penetrate the skin the same as the claws are covered.

Alergies, eye infection (pink eye), or some material.
