Has anyone had one, how long do you have to stay in hospital and a few relatives of mine said that i should not have it cos it messes up your married life in the sense that sex will not be the same again. I dont know what to do, I am 35yrs old and have been bleeding continuosly for the last month which has lead to many complications, can anyone help with advice.

I asked SO MANY women and got so many different answers, but I tell you, I had a radical Hyst 2 mos ago, due to cancer, I'm a very young 43 and was very scared this would change everything in my life.. But ya know what? I'm hornier and wetter now (using hormone patch) than I was in my 20s. Don't worry.. I found out I didn't need to worry... go for it...how much fun are you having when you are bleeding and in pain anyways, right?

The legnth of the hospital stay depends on the method used. An open type surgery will keep you in hospital for about 7-10 days, believe me you will need the pain relief, and it will take you about 6 months to fully recover.
With a laprascopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy, the type I had, the hospital period is only 3 days and though there is pain, it is nowhere near as bad. The full recovery period is about 3 months because the surgery is much, much less traumatic to your body.
I can tell you that it has not at all affected my desire, or ability to enjoy orgasm, however, I cant tell you about actual intercourse as I am unfortunately medically celibate. (This has absolutely nothing to do with the hysterectomy though!!!)
By the way you will only need hormone replacement therapy if you have your ovaries removed, not a usual part of hysterectomy except in the case of cancer or ovarian disease, it is also done if you are post menopausal, which you obviously aint!
As far as should you get it done, if youre done having children, go for it!! I still chuckle with glee when I walk down the tampon aisle in the supermarket!! (I was 32 when I had mine.)

Listen to your body. It is telling you what you need. You will so love not having a monthly. When you do have it: it's just like you have just had a baby. You go through the 6 week thing. I had one and it did not change my sex life for the worst but for the better. The Doctor said he put in some extra stitches so it would help not hurt my sex life. He was right. I had 3 children the first at 16 and it stretches you out in there.

I had a hysterectomy due to cancer. I stayed in the hospital for five days. I dont want to tell you what happened to me because all surgeries are different. Talk to your doctor and get two other opinions before you have it. The best thing about it is you dont have to worry about getting pregnant and you shouldn't have any more bleeding. I would recommend getting another opinion before deciding to have this surgery if you are able to wait a bit and in the mean time try to keep your iron up.
The reason I'm recommending a second opinion is because if it's something like fibroids depending on their size there are easier ways to deal with it than doing a hysterectomy.

had mine 10 years ago best days work i ever did was in hospital for 6 days dunno about messing up your sex life didnt do mine any harm and yes i do still feel all woman like youhad it done due to excess bleeding lasting 18 months had loads of energy to the point i really didnt know what to do with it i have no regrets and if i lived my life again i wouldnt change my hysterectomy do what you feel you need to do you will not regret it

i was 37 i had been bleeding for three years and it was cancer. do the surgery and then get on the estrogen patch, once you are well healed sex is great, i am more into it than ever, however my husband didnt think i was a woman anymore, so i found a man who thinks im the greatest blonde hes met. life begins again.

my sister did,last year.she's33 she had a tumor,so she had no choice but 2 do it. and she's going through alot.she says that she does'nt feel like a woman&always tired,weak,moody.she says sex is'nt the same because she does'nt feel sexy or femine any more.i would look in 2 other options before u decide.
