decide to be acitve about your decision. make it every day over and over agian. don't rest on the fact that you quit. You are still addicted, and every time you say no, you are beating back that addiction. it is hard as hell, the trickiest thing for me is that this means you still have to make the decision a year later when it seems like your addiction was forever ago. thats the ***** of addiction. its always there. you are the only one who can decide not to smoke and you gotta decide that every time.

I never smoked. A family member of mine quit cold turkey though. It was my grandmother. Her husband had lung problems real bad from smoking, was on oxygen and everything. Her doctor finally told her that if she didn't quit smoking she'd end up like him. She wasn't having it so she just quit. Took only like a week. Hasn't smoked since. And she was a smoker since she was a late teenager. The thing that made her quit was she decided firmly in her mind she was going to do it.

I didn't have the willpower so I chew the gum. Most successful quitters I know went the cold turkey route.
Good luck!
PS: Stay away from other smokers if you can.

Yep... just don't buy them or bum them anymore... then go have your teeth cleaned and whitened... it's a great incentive
